Formative assessment is a significant aspect of the training process. However, despite there being over 50-years’-worth of research evidence to suggest it has a significant impact on learning, it is often a misunderstood construct. Drawing on high-quality educational research, this presentation will focus on why formative assessment should be a priority for training providers, what formative assessment is (and what it is not), and how it can be meaningfully implemented into teaching and learning practices.
