Diabetes is a known and foreseeable risk in the workplace. Five million people in the UK have diabetes – that’s 1 in 12 working-age people. It is the leading cause of blindness in the working population and over 50% of people 55+ have some form of peripheral neuropathy that could be impacting their driving. Most employers are not aware of the prevalence of diabetes in their workplace, how their workplace might be contributing to poor health outcomes and complications for people with diabetes, or the threat of the type 2 diabetes epidemic on business performance, growth and sustainability. In this session we will share new data on the impact of diabetes safety for the industry and steps that can be taken to help companies become diabetes safe.
