I’m a mining geologist and founder of Bold as Brass, a gender equity group and catalyst in industry culture change. We improve allyship and advocacy, educate heavy industry bodies on zones of inequity through campaigns, and offer women access to free career coaching and mentors that they wouldn’t otherwise receive. In essence, Bold as Brass disrupts the status quo long enough to make a real change.
I’ve been working on improving women’s safety in masculine and safety critical workspaces for the last few two years, focusing on the top issues women face that are both dangerous and impacting their career progression. Having spent 15 years in anti-safety safety equipment I’ve targeted PPE first, grabbing every person who’s had an twinkle of interest along the way and dragged them with me; the more voices speaking the same message, the louder the message has become.
I’ve worked offshore, underground, at -40 in open pits, in office-based consultancy, and managed the geotechnical safety of quarries in the south of the UK. I now consult on women’s safety in heavy industry workplaces; assisting employers with locating inequity and tracking down provision to level it out.
